Yes, in case an international student holds a valid study permit of edmonton and is undergoing a full-time course at a DLI, he/she is permitted to work both on-campus and off-campus without getting a separate work permit for the same, With a valid study permit, you will be permitted to work for up to 20 hours per week

As you are studying in edmonton, If you intend to renew your study permit, you are recommended to apply before the expiry of the permit, The reason is that you must immediately leave Canada on expiry of your study permit, In some instance, you might be able to apply for status restoration, But, if there is a delay in status restoration, you will not be allowed to study until then.

To study and to stay in edmonton for more than six months, you will have to first get an admission to a Canadian Designated Learning Institution shortly called as DLI that has Government of Canada recognition, Once you get an approval letter from DLI, you will have to apply for a study permit.
